The Netherlands literally means "lower countries" in reference to its low elevation and flat topography, with nearly 26% falling below sea level.[16] Most of the areas below sea level, known as polders, are the result of land reclamation that began in the 14th century. While I have visited only Amsterdam so far, I loved this city more than anyone I have traveled to so far. One can see some unique architecture everywhere ranging from cute colorful houses to modern buildings with some really unique designs. One can see a combination of urban vibes with water bodies around, canals, and vegetation too which is probably why I like this city so much. Windmills, tulips, wooden shoes, cheese, Delftware pottery, and cannabis have grown to symbolize the Netherlands, especially among tourists.
